Walk-and-talk
Beach therapy
Beach therapy offers an alternative to the traditional office setting, combining psychotherapy with gentle movement and the restorative benefits of being in nature. Set against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean, therapy on the beach can create space to slow down and reconnect—with yourself and the world around you.
Where movement and nature meet therapy
Why Beach therapy?
Nature can be a powerful support for our physical and psychological health. Spending time in nature can help regulate the nervous system, reduce stress, improve sleep, enhance positive social engagement, and increase our mood, happiness, and subjective well-being. For some, it can also make challenging conversations more approachable.
While the aim of the therapeutic process remains the same—moving toward meaningful change through a shared commitment to your goals—being in nature can help some people think more clearly, release bodily tension, and feel more grounded during their pursuit of growth.
A Natural Extension of my Approach
Grow True Psychology was created with the intention of helping others navigate challenges and pursue growth by caring for their whole selves. I passionately believe that when we care for our mind, bodies, and spirits equally, we can be best able to tackle hardship, demonstrate our strengths, and understand what makes us soar.
Rather than separating the mind and body, beach sessions acknowledge how they are connected. Whether we're working on social anxiety, self-criticism, or processing the ending of a life chapter, movement and nature become part of the therapeutic experience.
One of my favorite parts of beach therapy is when I have the opportunity to lead a guided mindfulness practice. Our senses have an opportunity to richly connect to the present moment through physical grounding on the earth, the feeling of fresh ocean air, the sounds of crashing waves, and the scent of salt water.
What to Expect
Informed ConsentBefore beginning beach therapy, we will determine if it seems like an appropriate fit for your goals and needs. If it does, we will review privacy and other considerations, discuss meeting details, and you will have time to ask questions.
1 /During Your SessionDuring our time outside, we will draw upon the same evidence-based components that we would in an office. We would remain committed to achieving your goals in a collaborative manner as we walk along the water’s edge.
2 /Moving ForwardAfter experiencing a beach therapy session, we may choose to continue meeting this way. Or, we may explore other options, like alternating between beach and office sessions. We will aim to consistently work together to provide you with the most appropriate care.
3 /Could beach therapy be right for you?
Some conversations may be better suited for the privacy of the office, and together we can decide which setting best supports your needs. Beach therapy may be a good fit if you:
Feel more comfortable talking while moving
Enjoy spending time outdoors
Want to incorporate movement or nature into your wellness routine
Feel stuck or mentally overwhelmed
Appreciate a less traditional therapy environmentA Different perspective
With the rhythm of movement and openness of nature, beach therapy can gently invite helpful conversations. If you're curious whether beach therapy might be right for you, I'd love to hear from you.
